Dental Examination
A complete dental examination is recommended twice-yearly for children and adults of all ages. If needed and recommended by our Dentist during the initial visit, our staff will take a complete set of oral X-rays to ensure our patients teeth and supporting structures are healthy. By doing this we are able to diagnose cavities, identify any pre-existing boneless and check for any lesions that might be abnormal. Radiographs will not be mandatory at all visits but are highly recommended once a year and before any dental procedures that may require them. During the examination, the dentist will come in and check each tooth and the surrounding tissues including the patients gums, tongue and cheeks. By doing this the Dentist at Smile Center Harvard will inspect every tooth for cavities, assess plaque levels to determine if gum disease is present, and look for any damage such as broken teeth. Also our dentist will provide Oral Cancer Examinations as well as examine the patients Temporal Mandibular Joint ( TMJ) Looking at our patients tissues and teeth will allow our team to write up a personalized treatment plan for each individual patient. This plan of action will be thoroughly explained to the patient so a clear understanding is reached before any actual dental work is started. Is is important to us that our patients know what the finish line looks like after the initial exam.
Cleaning
After the examination is complete, one of our professional and knowledgeable Smile Center Harvard Hygienists will perform a complete dental cleaning. Professional cleanings are encouraged ( delete twice a year because some patients have to come in 3 or 4 times a year) to prevent or slow the process of dental decay, gum disease also known as Gingivitis, and bone loss also known as Periodontitis. These cleanings are very important for our patients so that they have a healthy foundation. Dental decay and periodontitis are the top two reasons why patients end up loosing teeth. It is good to quickly find and establish a treatment for any oral health conditions in order to prevent tooth loss. A professional cleaning is secondary to the oral hygiene you maintain at home. It is strongly encouraged that patients brush and floss their teeth twice a day . Call us today at STANDARD or submit a request for an appointment online!
